Stratco's strategy of growth

With over 50 years experience in the building and home renovation markets Stratco has become one of the largest producers and marketers of quality building and home improvement products in Australia and is actively pursuing a place on the world stage.

Stratco now has state of the art manufacturing facilities in all mainland states of Australia along with a network of home improvement stores throughout the country.

Over 50 years of service

Alf Stratton (senior)

In the early 1940's a young Alf Stratton (senior) established a plumbing company out of his own home in Adelaide, South Australia.

Following years of dedicated effort through some very tough times, encouraged by his success and the unrelenting support of his wife Mavis, in 1948 he incorporated Stratco Metal Pty Ltd to manufacture sheet metal products for his plumbing company to install.

It was during these humble beginnings that Stratco's solid foundation was laid.

"We simply want to continue to produce and market quality products, innovate new products and back them with qualified people who offer friendly service and advice."

It is the relentless application of this philosophy on which our dynamic growth has been, and will continue to be built.

In 1967 Mr Alf Stratton junior became managing director and injected Stratco with a new spirit of innovation and a vision of national and global expansion. A team of specific personnel was assembled to give Stratco a solid base on which to build.

Stratco's expansion was in keeping with the company's philosophy, establishing manufacturing centres to provide locally produced product and back them with qualified people. In doing so Stratco developed what was to become a strategy of growth.

In 1975 Stratco successfully introduced its products to Victoria and established itself as a competitive force in the housing and renovation markets.

In 1978 Western Australia's building and mining industries quickly accepted Stratco's wide range of products and they soon became a market leader in the state.

Stratco's flexibility and willingness to tackle new projects in cyclonic regions gained them early respect from the Northern Territory housing industry in 1983.

In 1984 Stratco Queensland was established where their ability to respond quickly to the needs of the steel roofing market has generated steady growth.

In 1988 the New South Wales building and home improvement markets responded favourably to the introduction of Stratco's new products, short lead times and strong customer focus.

Having established a strong marketing and financial base, Stratco introduced its products and technologies to the world, exporting product to the Middle East, Africa and throughout the Pacific Rim, and establishing licensing arrangements in the UK and Malaysia.

Stratco opened their first international division in Christchurch New Zealand in 1992 where it has met local challenges in the sheet metal fabrication, housing and industrial markets.
