Design Considerations
Gable Units Attached Between a Flat/Sunroof Unit & an Existing Structure
Gable Units which are attached between a Flat/Sunroof Unit (excluding pergolas) and an existing house, shall only be considered attached if the Gable Unit is attached to the existing house (C) for its full length (L) and the longest side of the combined unit (B) does not exceed twice the gable length (L). The Flat/Sunroof Unit in this case can be considered attached. This style requires all coloumns to be embedded into footings.
Gable Units Attached to Flat/sunroof Unit One or Both Sides
Gable Units which are attached one or both sides to Flat/Sunroof Units, (excluding pergolas) must be attached to an existing house for at least 75% of the gable opening length (O) to be considered attached. Flat/Sunroof Unit/s must be deemed attached as detailed in the Flat/Sunroof Unit section below to allow the Gable Unit to be considered attached.
Gable Units are considered attached both sides if both Flat/Sunroof 1 and 2 comply with attachment rules for Flat/Sunroof Units as detailed below. Gable Units are considered attached one side if only one Flat/Sunroof Unit exists and it complies with the attachment rules for Flat/Sunroof Units as detailed below.
Design Options
When designing an Outback, consideration should be given to both Roof sheet direction, and the orientation of any openings and overhangs involved. These are often determined by appearence and drainage requirements. The following charts show some of the normal options used, but contact Stratco if assistance is required.

Manufactured from Colorbond® steel, Multispan and Clearspan Gable are available in a range of colours. They have an all colour, high gloss finish that provides a low maintenance, attractive and aesthetically pleasing structure, all without the need for painting. The quality of the Outback design provides a picture of style and finish. These qualities include concealed brackets for optimum attractiveness, attractive chamfered and fluted beams and columns; strong high tensile steel for maximum strength and wide spanning capabilities to provide greater living space.
Multispan Gable
The Outback Multispan Gable creates space, improves ventilation and adds prestige to your home. It has an impressive gable design that is integrated with a traditional Flat Roof Outback.
The Multispan has been designed with flexibility in mind. It offers the flexibility to accommodate your choice of roofing materials and design options. Whether it is polycarbonate to maximise light, traditional corrugated iron to match your home, or the smooth and glossy look of the Outback deck, the Multispan Gable can be tailored to suit your needs. The gable is available with a 22 or 30 degree pitch and a maximum opening of 6.6m when attached at both ends, or 3m when attached at one end.
Clearspan Gable
The Outback Clearspan Gable adds flair and style to your home in a distinctive manner.
The Clearspan is a gable design with great visual appeal and superior spanning capabilities. It features Outback deck as the roofing, and the strength of this roof sheeting means that purlins are not required, producing a wide spanning free flowing effect.
The clearspan has a high glossy ceiling like appearance from beneath and light panels are available where additional filtered light is required. The gable is available with a 22 degree pitch and maximum 7.5m opening.
The Stratco Multispan and Clearspan Gable are competitively priced and can be installed by authorised dealers. The system has been engineered to relevant Australian Standards and fully tested and certified by independent Structural Engineers.
