How Nine in Six Builders Transformed Their Site Management with a Custom Stratco Big Shed

On a fast paced, large scale construction site, every single detail matters. Beyond managing timelines and trades, one of the biggest logistical hurdles project leaders face is organizing space for a massive crew and thousands of dollars in tools, gear, and raw materials.

When Nine in Six Builders kicked off a major winter construction project, they knew the standard site setup, a chaotic mix of shipping containers, small tool sheds, and scattered break areas, just was not going to cut it.

Instead, they approached us at Stratco with an ambitious challenge: design a single, super sized site shed to act as the central command hub for their entire project.

Here is a look at how we collaborated with Nine in Six Builders to engineer a bespoke Large Span Shed solution that fundamentally changed how they work on site.

Moving Beyond Scattered Site Amenities

On previous builds, Nine in Six Builders relied on traditional setups: a coffee container over here, a fitting storage shed over there, and separate lockups for tools. While that approach works on smaller domestic builds, a project of this scale meant more people coming through the gates every day and far more complex workflows.

Nine in Six Builders recognized that walking back and forth between multiple small structures was draining productivity. They wanted a streamlined, all in one space to bring their crew, amenities, equipment, and material storage under one continuous roof.

That is where Stratco came in.

Engineering for Scale, Weather, and Tricky Site Conditions

Designing a shed of this magnitude required careful engineering and deep collaboration. Working together since 2022, our design and engineering teams worked alongside Nine in Six Builders to tackle three major site requirements:

1. Uncompromising Scale and High Capacity Storage

Size was the top priority. The building needed to house vital daily amenities (like tea and coffee stations), a centralized tool and hardware dispensary, and heavy duty storage for construction supplies. Our engineering team designed an open plan structure that maximized usable clear span floor space without compromising structural integrity.

2. Winter Protection and Crew Welfare

Building through the Australian winter presents harsh weather conditions. Nine in Six Builders needed a secure, dry environment to protect materials from moisture damage and give the team a comfortable space to start their day.

3. Turning a Sloped Site into a Design Advantage

The construction site was not flat, but a sloping block did not stop us. Rather than doing extensive, costly earthworks, we engineered the shed with stepped interior floor levels under a single, continuous roofline. This clever design nuance preserved the building tall exterior silhouette while creating massive interior height, perfect for high storage racking and flexible vertical space.

How the Mega Shed Became the Heart of the Job Site

Once installed, the custom Stratco Big Shed became the operational engine room for Nine in Six Builders. It served crucial day to day functions that went far beyond basic storage:

  • Indoor Command Center for 200+ Person Meetings: Every morning, the entire site team gathers for their pre start briefing. On days with over 200 workers on site, holding these outdoors in winter weather was inefficient. The Stratco shed gave the team a dry, quiet, indoor gathering space where updates could be communicated clearly to everyone.
  • Controlled Environment Workshop: The expansive, open floor plan allowed Nine in Six Builders to set up an on site painting and pre fabrication workshop. Cladding materials were pre painted inside a completely dry, weather controlled environment, ready to go straight onto the main building exterior as soon as they dried.
  • Streamlined Daily Workflows: Centralizing tools, supplies, and amenities under one roof drastically cut down on wasted movement across the site. The crew knew exactly where to find what they needed, minimizing downtime and preventing costly mistakes.

A Partnership Built on Design, Planning, and Trust

At Stratco, we believe a shed is more than just steel panels and brackets, it is a strategic tool for project success.

From the initial concept and engineering phase through to staged delivery logistics, our team provided Nine in Six Builders with detailed architectural plans showing precisely how the building would arrive on site and assemble step by step. This level of end to end planning ensured a smooth, predictable build process that fit seamlessly into their master construction schedule.
