HowTo Assemble A Stratco Raised Garden Bed

Create the perfect space for flowers, herbs, fruit, or vegetables with a Stratco Raised Garden Bed. Available in Grey, Ebony, and Off White, these durable steel garden beds are designed for easy DIY assembly and long-lasting garden performance.

Whether you're establishing a productive vegetable patch or creating a colourful floral display, this guide will walk you through how to assemble your Stratco Garden Bed in just a few simple steps.

Before You Begin

Choose a suitable location for your garden bed before assembly. As the garden bed does not include a base, it should be installed on a soft landscaped surface such as soil, lawn, or garden mulch.

Installing on hard surfaces like pavers, concrete, or decking may result in water and soil seepage over time.

Safety Equipment

Before starting, ensure you have appropriate safety gear, including:

What's Included

Your Stratco Garden Bed kit contains:

  • 2 long side panels
  • 2 short side panels
  • 4 corner profiles
  • 4 corner caps
  • Bolts and wing nuts

Tools Required

  • Phillips head screwdriver

Step 1: Check All Components

Carefully unpack the garden bed and lay all components on a flat surface.

Confirm that all panels, corner profiles, corner caps, bolts, and wing nuts are present before beginning assembly.

Taking a few minutes to check your components now can help ensure a smooth installation process.

Step 2: Assemble the First Corner

Begin with one short side panel and one long side panel.

Position a corner cap between the side panel and the corner profile. The corner profile sits on the outside of the garden bed and sandwiches the corner cap between itself and the panel.

Align the pre-drilled holes in all three components.

Insert a bolt from the outside through the aligned holes and secure it with a wing nut on the inside.

Use a Phillips head screwdriver to hold the bolt steady while tightening the wing nut by hand.

Step 3: Secure the Corner Fixings

Each corner contains eight pre-drilled fixing points.

Install and tighten all bolts and wing nuts through the aligned holes, ensuring the corner profile, corner cap, and side panels remain correctly positioned.

Once complete, the first corner should be firmly secured.

Important

Ensure you are connecting one long side panel and one short side panel at each corner.

Connecting two panels of the same length together will prevent the garden bed from assembling correctly.

Step 4: Attach the Remaining Panels

Continue assembling the remaining corners by attaching the second short side panel and second long side panel.

Repeat the same process:

  1. Position the corner cap.
  2. Place the corner profile over the outside.
  3. Align all holes.
  4. Insert bolts from the outside.
  5. Secure with wing nuts on the inside.
  6. Tighten all fixings.

Work your way around the garden bed until all four corners are fully assembled.

Installing the Double Height Garden Bed

The Stratco Double Height Garden Bed follows the same assembly process, with the addition of a second layer of panels.

Step 1: Join the Side Panels

Position the upper side panel so it overlaps the lower panel.

Align the fixing holes and secure the panels to the corner profiles using the supplied bolts and wing nuts.

For easiest assembly, install the middle fixing point first before securing the remaining bolts.

Step 2: Fit the Corner Caps

Ensure the corner cap remains positioned between the corner profile and side panels during assembly.

Step 3: Complete All Corners

Repeat the process on each corner until the double height garden bed is fully assembled and secure.

Positioning Your Garden Bed

Once assembled, move the garden bed into its final position before filling.

The raised design makes planting and ongoing garden maintenance more comfortable by reducing the amount of bending and reaching required.

You can fill your garden bed with:

Garden Design Inspiration

A raised garden bed offers endless planting possibilities.

For a colourful feature display, consider layering plants by height, placing lower-growing varieties at the front and taller plants towards the rear. This creates visual depth while ensuring all plants remain visible.

Alternatively, create a productive kitchen garden filled with herbs, leafy greens, tomatoes, and seasonal vegetables for easy access during cooking and entertaining.

Helpful Tips

Choose the Right Location

Most vegetables, herbs, and flowering plants perform best in a position that receives at least six hours of sunlight each day.

Improve Soil Quality

Use premium garden soil or raised garden bed mix to encourage healthy plant growth and strong root development.

Consider Drainage

Because the garden bed is open-based, excess water can naturally drain into the surrounding soil, helping prevent waterlogging.

Plan Before Planting

Arrange your plants while still in their pots before planting to achieve the layout and spacing you want.
