Discover How Mossop Construction Transformed Operations With A Stratco Big Shed
As their project volume scaled up, Mossop Construction needed more than just an extra storage building, they needed a centralised operational command hub. They needed a space to secure valuable plant and machinery, organise site supplies and streamline their daily trade workflows.
When they reached out to us at Stratco, we stepped in from day one to turn their operational challenges into a custom engineered Stratco Big Shed.
Here is how we collaborated to design and build a heavy duty commercial workspace built for long term growth.
Defining The Trade Workspace Requirements
A commercial fit out business relies on fast turnaround times and constant movement of materials. Before ground was broken on their new property, the owners laid out three clear operational goals:
- High Density Stock Storage: Space to hold bulk inventory so materials could be dispatched to active job sites without delay.
- Asset Protection: Secure, weather tight storage to keep high value plant machinery in top condition.
- Streamlined Site Workflow: Dedicated zones for every tool, supply item, and vehicle, eliminating time wasted searching for equipment.
To achieve all three, our commercial team met them on site immediately to assess the land, evaluate layout options, and provide early design guidance alongside an initial quote.
Solving Complex Site and Design Challenges
Large commercial shed projects rarely come without a few technical hurdles. By working directly with our engineering team, the client navigated several specific challenges around their requirements, structural challenges and regulatory requirements:
1. Pushing Heights For Vertical Racking
We all know floor space is valuable, but vertical shed space can also deliver clearance and storage capacity. The client needed maximum internal clearance to install tall industrial pallet racking. During the design phase, we pushed the roof height profile of their Stratco Big Shed to its engineering limits, unlocking massive vertical volume inside the building without compromising quality, strength or safety.
2. Meeting Strict Fire Rating Regulations
Because the new building was positioned directly on the property boundary, local building codes required the first three meters of the structure to be fully fire rated. Our team provided compliant structural options that satisfied council requirements without sacrificing the internal floor layout.
3. Integrated Security And Access Options
Moving large equipment requires generous access points. We supplied extra wide industrial roller doors and personal access entry doors as part of a complete integrated kit. To ensure seamless site security, we also engineered the entry points to accommodate full electronic strike access control systems.
Visualising The Build With Custom Renders
Choosing the right exterior aesthetic for a major commercial facility can trigger endless internal debate, slowing down the whole project. To help the owners choose their final look, our team generated realistic 3D rendered models showing the proposed Stratco Big Shed in four different COLORBOND® steel color combinations.
Seeing the exact finished building in a realistic digital environment took the guesswork out of the decision, allowing the team to select their preferred color scheme with complete confidence before manufacturing began, without delaying the project.
Adding Value With A Dedicated Washdown Bay
A key part of maintaining a professional construction business is keeping equipment clean and job ready. To support this requirement, the shed layout was paired with a dedicated machinery washdown bay space. Plant equipment can now be brought back from job sites, thoroughly cleaned, and prepared for the next use right on site.
Project Highlights at a Glance
| Feature | Operational Benefit |
| Shed Type: Custom Stratco Big Shed | Delivers extreme structural strength with maximum clear span room. |
| Increased Vertical Clearance With Customised Height Profile | Accommodates tall industrial racking to double usable storage capacity. |
| Boundary Fire Rating Compliance | Met strict local council rules for builds situated on property lines with compliant strucural wall options |
| Versatile Access Points | Extra wide roller doors and personal access doors allow heavy plant machinery and vehicles to move in and out easily whie also providing safe entry and exit for pedestrians. |
| 3D Rendering Service | The provision of digital renders for visualisation allowed the owners to preview different color schemes before building. |
Building A Foundation For Future Growth
Moving from a cramped workshop into a purpose built Stratco Big Shed has transformed how Mossp Construction operates. Their new Stratco Big Shed protects their major machinery investments, keeps site supplies organised and gives their team a clean, professional base to work from every day.
At Stratco, we do not just sell steel structures, we partner with Australian businesses to engineer commercial solutions that drive efficiency and support future expansion for commercial operations.
