It was another huge week on The Block Season 22, and this time the teams had to take on one of their biggest challenges yet - creating a complete guest suite.
With a guest bedroom and bathroom to finish, the teams had double the spaces, double the decisions and plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong. And with the competition now reaching the halfway point, the pressure to get their homes right is definitely starting to build.
There was also a major change for one team, some serious budget conversations and, finally, a huge comeback for two of my favourite contestants.
Guest Suite Week Begins
For Week 6, the contestants were asked to create a guest suite that included both a bedroom and bathroom.
The challenge was about more than simply creating a beautiful bedroom. The teams needed to think about how the two spaces worked together and how they could make the suite feel functional, comfortable and appealing to potential buyers.
After five weeks of renovations, the teams are also starting to find their individual design styles. Some are leaning heavily into quiet luxury, while others are taking more risks with colour, materials and styling.
With the judges becoming increasingly focused on marketability, functionality and how each room contributes to the overall home, there was plenty at stake.
A Tough Week For Rick & Tayla
One of the biggest storylines of the week was once again Rick & Tayla.
Rick had been dealing with a knee infection after his health scare during Living, Dining and Terrace Week. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to return to site and ultimately decided to head home to recover.
That left Tayla with an enormous amount of work to get through.
Thankfully, she wasn't completely on her own. Tayla's twin sister Shannen stepped in to help, along with former Block contestant Spence Thomson.
With two rooms to complete, though, it was always going to be a huge challenge - especially with the team already under pressure.
Courtney & Sev Go All Out
Meanwhile, Courtney & Sev were determined to make a statement.
After a few weeks of mixed results, the girls were back with a guest suite that really showed what they can do when their ideas come together.
One of the biggest features was their self-contained kitchenette, which included a sink, mini fridge and coffee machine. They explained that the outdoor courtyard would provide the cooking facilities, creating a space that could work particularly well for an au pair, extended family member or even short-term accommodation.
I really liked this idea because it wasn't just about making the room look good - they were thinking about how the space could actually be used.
Their bedroom also featured a custom Grafico bedhead and plenty of thoughtful styling details, while the bathroom continued the luxurious feel with a spacious shower and strong material choices.
And this time, the judges were completely on board.
The First Perfect 10s Of Season 22
Reveal day delivered one of the biggest results of Season 22 so far.
Courtney & Sev scored an incredible 29.5 out of 30, with Darren Palmer and Marty Fox both awarding them a perfect 10.
Shaynna Blaze gave them a 9.5, making it the highest score of the competition so far.
After their difficult main bedroom week, this was such a strong comeback for the girls. The judges praised the suite for feeling luxurious, expensive and cohesive, with the kitchenette becoming one of the standout features.
Shaynna even said she could see herself living in the space.
It also earned Courtney & Sev $10,000 for the win.
The Week 6 Scoreboard
Here is how the teams finished at the Guest Suite reveal:
1st - Courtney & Sev 29.5/30
2nd - Adam & Jolene 25.5/30
2nd - Chantel & Wyatt 25.5/30
4th - Lisa & Rosco 23.5/30
5th - Rick & Tayla 17/30
Courtney & Sev were comfortably ahead of the rest of the competition, finishing four points clear of the two teams tied in second place.
Adam & Jolene Find Their Balance
After winning Living, Dining and Terrace Week, Adam & Jolene were hoping to keep their momentum going.
Their guest suite took a slightly different approach, with the team bringing more colour into the space.
The judges liked the change, particularly the combination of pink and burgundy tones and the way the colours worked together without becoming overwhelming.
Darren described the room as having a sense of modern simplicity with plenty of colour, showing that the pair had clearly listened to previous feedback about pulling back their styling.
Their bathroom was another strong point, with the judges praising the stone, tapware, storage and overall finish.
They finished equal second with 25.5/30 and also took home the $10,000 budgeting award.
Chantel & Wyatt Stay Consistent
Chantel & Wyatt also finished on 25.5/30, tying with Adam & Jolene for second place.
The judges liked the overall styling and colour choices, as well as the amount of storage incorporated into the suite.
Their strategy of creating a highly marketable home continued, although the judges once again questioned whether their spaces had enough personality.
While their neutral approach may appeal to a broad range of buyers, the judges are increasingly asking the team to create rooms that feel more memorable and individual.
It's going to be interesting to see whether they stick with this strategy for the rest of the competition.
Lisa & Rosco Bounce Back In The Bathroom
Lisa & Rosco finished fourth with 23.5/30, but their result didn't tell the whole story.
Their guest bedroom received criticism for feeling fairly basic, with the judges questioning the need for a study nook and some of the styling choices.
However, their bathroom was a completely different story.
The judges loved the tiles, vanity, craftsmanship and layout, with Marty particularly impressed by the execution.
It was also a big moment for the team because they finally managed to finish their main bathroom, which had been left incomplete during an earlier reveal.
So, while they didn't take out the win, there were definitely some positives for Lisa & Rosco to take into the next week.
A Difficult Reveal For Rick & Tayla
Unfortunately, Rick & Tayla had another tough reveal.
With Rick recovering at home, Tayla had been carrying an enormous amount of responsibility, even with the additional help from Shannen and Spence.
The judges were not impressed with the final result, giving the team 17/30 and placing them in last.
A number of styling decisions became the focus of the judging, with the judges questioning everything from the barn door to the study nook and some of the decorative choices.
It was a tough result after Tayla had worked so hard to get the rooms finished.
Their budget was also a major concern. The team spent $30,406.27 against an estimated budget of $19,601 - more than $10,000 over.
With plenty of the build still to come, that level of overspending could become a serious issue for the team.
My Week 6 Thoughts
This was definitely a big week for my favourite team!
I'm still backing Courtney & Sev, and seeing them score 29.5 was so exciting. After a few weeks where they haven't always received the feedback they've hoped for, it was great to see their design vision really come together.
I also loved that their guest suite wasn't just focused on making everything look luxurious. The kitchenette gave the space a real purpose and made it feel like somewhere a future buyer could actually see themselves using.
I also felt for Tayla this week. Having Rick away from site while trying to complete two rooms would have been incredibly stressful, and she had a lot on her plate.
One thing I'm really noticing as the competition progresses is that functionality is becoming just as important as aesthetics. The judges aren't simply looking for pretty rooms - they're asking whether the spaces make sense, whether they're useful and whether they'll ultimately add value to the homes.
And with the halfway point now reached, I think those decisions are going to become even more important.
The Stratco Big Shed
And, of course, the Stratco Big Shed continues to be part of the action on site.
With the teams now working on increasingly large areas of their homes, having a dedicated space for storage, tools and building materials is proving particularly useful throughout the competition.
It's been great seeing the Stratco Big Shed become a familiar part of the Season 22 build environment as the homes continue to take shape.
What's Next?
With the guest suites now complete, we've officially reached the halfway point of The Block Season 22.
The teams have already tackled guest bedrooms, family bathrooms, main bedrooms, ensuites and their huge living, dining and terrace spaces. Now, the pressure is only going to increase as the remaining rooms start to take shape.
For me, the big question is whether Courtney & Sev can carry their incredible Week 6 momentum into the next room reveal.
After scoring the first 10s of Season 22, they've definitely reminded everyone that they're still a serious team to watch.
And with budgets getting tighter and the finish line getting closer, there is still a lot to play out.
