What’s Big On The Block With Alex - Week 8

Sep 29 2026

After the huge kitchens of Week 7, the contestants on The Block Season 22 were back on site for another double-room challenge.

This time, the teams had to complete their rumpus rooms and laundries, creating functional downstairs spaces that would connect with their outdoor entertaining areas.

But Week 8 wasn't just about the renovations. The contestants were also asked to put their own builds aside and work together on a very different project - creating two crisis accommodation units for Mornington Community Support Centre.

Between the charity challenge, tight deadlines, plenty of construction pressure and another round of tension between the contestants, there was a lot happening before reveal night.

And when the judges finally walked through the finished rooms, Courtney & Sev delivered another standout result.

A Different Kind of Week

The rumpus and laundry brief gave the contestants a little more freedom than some of the previous rooms.

The rumpus rooms were designed to provide another living and entertaining area downstairs, while the laundries needed to be practical but still fit with the overall style of each home.

With the homes all featuring spectacular views and large outdoor areas, the contestants also had to think about how their rumpus rooms connected with the rest of the house.

Some teams went for large, comfortable seating areas, while others incorporated kitchenettes to make their spaces feel more self-contained.

And once again, the contestants had very different ideas about how to use the space.

Giving Back on The Block

One of the most memorable parts of the week was the charity challenge.

The contestants were split into two teams and tasked with renovating two two-bedroom crisis accommodation units for Mornington Community Support Centre.

Former Block contestants Maddy & Charlotte returned to help lead one of the teams, with the contestants working together to transform the accommodation into welcoming, practical homes.

Unlike the usual Block challenge, there was no judging based on which team created the most luxurious space. The focus was on delivering somewhere warm, functional and comfortable for families who would genuinely be living there.

For some of the contestants, the project became more important than their own builds.

Rick, in particular, spent a significant amount of time working on the charity project, saying he would rather be there than back at his own house.

Not Everyone Saw Eye to Eye

Of course, getting five competitive couples to work together was never going to be completely straightforward.

The charity challenge created its own set of disagreements, particularly around the use of the delivery van and how the workload was being shared between the two teams.

Adam & Jolene's team was struggling to keep up because their contestants were also trying to complete their own rumpus and laundry rooms, while Maddy & Charlotte's team was able to focus more heavily on the charity build.

The tension eventually boiled over, with Jolene becoming frustrated over the delivery arrangements.

Despite the disagreements, the two units were eventually completed and delivered to Mornington Community Support Centre - creating a genuinely positive outcome from what had been a very stressful week.

The Drama Moves Back to The Block

Back at the main site, the relationships between some of the contestants were becoming increasingly strained.

After the arguments surrounding the charity challenge, another disagreement developed between Jolene and Wyatt.

Wyatt ended up in Adam & Jolene's carport, which left Jolene feeling uncomfortable and upset. The situation became another major talking point around the site and eventually contributed to a much bigger confrontation between the two couples.

With all five teams living together, these disagreements seem to have an even bigger impact than they might in a traditional Block season.

There's no escaping the other contestants at the end of the day - they're all sharing the same living arrangements, while simultaneously competing for the same prize.

The Pressure of the Rumpus and Laundry

While all of this was happening, the teams still had their own builds to finish.

Adam & Jolene spent $33,830 on their rumpus and laundry, creating a curved white lounge area with a sliding entry door, marble bench beneath the television, soundbar and a hidden kitchenette complete with a fridge, sink and coffee machine.

They also incorporated a gym machine and a drying cupboard into the laundry.

Chantel & Wyatt spent $26,605, opting for a predominantly white rumpus room.

Lisa & Rosco spent $29,105, creating a more relaxed space with a brown sofa, arched kitchenette and marble coffee table, while their laundry featured a clever hideaway for their robot vacuum.

Courtney & Sev spent $26,939, creating one of the more detailed spaces of the week.

And Rick & Tayla spent the most, at $39,029, as they worked to pull their downstairs spaces together.

Courtney & Sev Do It Again

After their huge 29.5/30 guest suite result in Week 6, followed by a strong Kitchen Week, all eyes were on Courtney & Sev.

And the girls did it again.

Their rumpus room featured a U-shaped furniture layout, kitchenette, bronze mirror, backlit shelving and acoustic panelling, with a mini dishwasher added to make entertaining easier.

The judges were extremely impressed.

Marty Fox described the room as feeling like a "cocoon", while Darren Palmer went even further, saying it was his favourite room on The Block so far.

The only real criticism was a small section of missing skirting in the laundry.

But even with that unfinished detail, Courtney & Sev managed to score 29.5/30, including perfect 10s from Darren and Marty.

After everything they've been through earlier in the competition, the girls are really finding their rhythm.

And yes - I'm still backing the girls!

Lisa & Rosco Impress

Lisa & Rosco also had a strong reveal, finishing second with 28/30.

Their rumpus continued their darker, more sophisticated design direction, with a brown sofa and cabinetry positioned to create a more open layout.

They also incorporated an arched kitchenette, adding another layer of functionality to the space.

Their laundry was particularly clever, with a dedicated hideaway for their robot vacuum.

Shaynna described the overall result as feeling casual but still high-end, which I think sums up Lisa & Rosco's design direction really well.

After some difficult weeks earlier in the competition, they've really started to find their feet.

Adam & Jolene Keep Their Momentum Going

After winning Kitchen Week with a perfect 30, Adam & Jolene were hoping to continue their run.

They finished third with 26.5/30.

The judges liked the overall functionality of the room, including the hidden kitchenette, but the large beach photograph wallpaper didn't receive the same response as some of their other design choices.

Darren felt the wallpaper didn't elevate the room, which was a little disappointing after Adam & Jolene had put so much thought into the space.

Still, another strong result keeps the couple near the top of the competition.

Rick & Tayla Face Another Tough Reveal

For Rick & Tayla, it was another challenging week.

Their rumpus featured a curved olive sofa, circular mirror and kitchenette, but the judges weren't convinced by the layout.

The television was positioned on the smallest wall, which meant the furniture arrangement didn't make the most of the space.

Shaynna also criticised the size of the coffee table, pendants, rug and artwork placement.

Darren was more positive, saying he didn't think it was a bad room - it was simply competing against some very strong rooms.

Their laundry was a much bigger success, with Darren describing it as perfect.

The couple ultimately scored 23.5/30.

Chantel & Wyatt Struggle to Impress

Chantel & Wyatt finished fifth with 23/30.

Their rumpus room was largely white and minimal, but the judges felt it lacked the warmth and personality needed to make it feel like a high-end entertaining space.

Marty described it as essentially a second television room, while Shaynna questioned whether it was really selling the lifestyle of the home.

Their laundry, however, received much more positive feedback.

The judges liked the functionality of the space, although Shaynna did question the decision to include a coffee table book in the laundry - asking whether anyone would actually sit down and read a book while doing their washing.

It's another example of how the smallest styling decisions can become a talking point on judging day.

The Week 8 Scoreboard

The final rumpus and laundry scores were:

  1. Courtney & Sev - 29.5/30
  2. Lisa & Rosco - 28/30
  3. Adam & Jolene - 26.5/30
  4. Rick & Tayla - 23.5/30
  5. Chantel & Wyatt - 23/30

Courtney & Sev's win is another huge result for the girls, giving them two perfect 10s from the judges and another near-perfect score.

My Week 8 Thoughts

This was definitely one of the more eventful weeks of Season 22 so far.

I really enjoyed seeing the contestants work on the crisis accommodation units. It was a nice change from the usual competition format and showed another side of the contestants, particularly when they were able to put their renovation skills towards something that would directly benefit people in need.

The drama, on the other hand, was certainly intense!

With everyone living together, it feels like even the smallest disagreement can quickly become much bigger. The situation between Jolene and Wyatt was uncomfortable to watch, and I think the pressure of the competition is clearly starting to take its toll on some of the relationships between the teams.

As for the room reveals, Courtney & Sev have done it again!

I loved their rumpus room. It felt cosy, considered and practical without losing the luxurious feel that they've been creating throughout their home.

I'm also really enjoying seeing Lisa & Rosco develop their style. Their spaces feel increasingly cohesive, and their second-place finish this week shows they've been able to recover from some of their earlier setbacks.

Adam & Jolene are another team I think have been really consistent. A third-place finish after a perfect 30 is nothing to be disappointed about, particularly when the judges were still positive about so many elements of their room.

And Rick & Tayla - I really hope next week is kinder to them. They've had a lot thrown at them throughout Season 22, and I think their laundry showed that they are capable of producing a really polished space when everything comes together.

The Stratco Big Shed

And, of course, I couldn't finish another Block recap without mentioning the Stratco Big Shed.

While the contestants have been busy transforming their homes, the Big Shed continues to be a familiar part of the Season 22 site.

It's doing much more than simply sitting in the background, too. The custom Stratco Big Shed was designed as a central hub for the enormous construction project, providing space for tools, equipment, materials, amenities and even site-wide meetings.

With more than 200 people working across the site at its busiest, having a large, centralised space has been an important part of keeping everything organised.

I love seeing it pop up throughout the episodes, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it as we head into the next stage of the competition.

What's Next?

Eight weeks down and the houses are really starting to take shape.

We've now seen the contestants tackle bedrooms, bathrooms, ensuites, living and dining spaces, kitchens, guest suites and downstairs entertaining areas.

The competition is also becoming increasingly personal, with friendships being tested and tensions between the teams continuing to build.

And then there's Courtney & Sev.

After another huge result this week, I'm very interested to see whether the girls can continue their run as the competition moves into the next stage.

With the auction getting closer, budgets getting tighter and more major rooms still to come, every decision is starting to matter.

One thing is for sure - Season 22 is showing no signs of slowing down!

I'll be back next week with another Block recap, keeping you up to date with all the renovation drama, design decisions, room reveals and, of course, the Stratco Big Shed along the way.
