Stratco Roof and Ceiling Battens are light yet strong, offering an economical alternative to timber roof battens. Manufactured from hi-tensile zinc/al steel, the battens remain straight and consistent throughout their long life. The profile of the batten allows for nesting, making them easier to store, carry and handle.

Steel Framing Roofing Batten

Stratco Roofing Battens are versatile and easy to use. They can be lapped, eliminating the need for on-site cutting, which makes them quick and easy to install. They are compatible with all pierce fix domestic roofing profiles and are fixed to the rafters with screws or nails through each flange. The roof is fixed to the battens with self-drilling screws.

Due to their steel construction, Stratco Ceiling Battens will help control timber rafter movement, which will assist in preventing the plasterboard ceiling from cracking in the future. Stratco Ceiling Battens are manufactured from hi-tensile zinc/al steel that delivers superior strength and durability.

Roofing Battens

Batten to Timber Fixing

Fasten the batten to every truss or rafter with a 12x40mm timber fixing screw (minimum fixing size) through each flange as shown below.

Batten to Steel Fixing

Fasten the batten to every truss or rafter with a 10x16mm hex-head self-drilling screw (minimum fixing size) through each flange as shown below.

Fixing the Roof Sheets

Fasten the roof sheets to the batten as per the appropriate Stratco roofing specifications.

Fixing the Ridge

Fix through the ridge flashing into the roofing batten as shown below, using the appropriate cladding screws.

Lapping the Battens

To minimise cutting, lay the battens in one direction starting from one end of the roof. The overlap must be supported over a truss or rafter, refer to the figure below. The minimum overlap is 100mm.

Additional Information

If additional fall protection is required on steel sheet roofs, Stratco Ceiling Battens may be fixed intermittently between Stratco Roofing Battens giving a batten spacing no greater than 600mm.

Roofing battens are suitable for non-cyclonic conditions up to and including W41 (N3). Refer to Stratco for applications in higher wind conditions.

Fixing to Timber Joists

Fasten the ceiling batten at every support with a 10x25mm timber fixing screw (minimum fixing size) through each flange as shown below.

Fasten the ceiling batten at every support using a 10x16mm hex-head self-drilling screw (minimum fixing size) through each flange as shown below.

Attaching the Plasterboard

Fasten the plasterboard to the ceiling batten according to the plasterboard manufacturer’s specifications, refer to the figure below for an example.
